Animoca Brands has cleared the final hurdle for managing investment funds in Abu Dhabi, expanding its asset management business.

Nate Kostar, staff writer, and Bryan O'Shea, staff editor, report:

Animoca Brands, formerly a mobile games company, is now targeting institutional demand for stablecoins and tokenized assets by securing approval to manage investment funds for non-retail clients in Abu Dhabi.

The authorization, granted to Animoca Asset Management (AD) Limited by the Abu Dhabi Global Market’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA), took effect on October 13th, following initial in-principle approval in November 2025.

This development builds upon their Dubai license secured in February for virtual asset brokerage and investment management services.

Animoca Brands' Journey:

  • Spun off from Animoca, a mobile game developer, in 2014.
  • Focus shifted to blockchain in 2018 with investments in OpenSea, Dapper Labs, and Sky Mavis.
  • Transitioning into a regulated financial services institution with a focus on stablecoins, tokenized assets, and treasury management.
