DATA Network, formerly Story, is set to retire its independent blockchain and move its AI training data protocol to Sui, thanks to a $30 million investment from the Sui Foundation.
The project's Trace registry, launched in June, will join the Sui ecosystem, while Walrus, a decentralized storage platform, will become the go-to storage layer for DATA Foundation and its partners' applications. This transition is due to the high costs of maintaining a dedicated blockchain for a single use case, including validator costs, network security, and infrastructure.
As Trace gained over 270 million registrations in four months, the decision to migrate made financial sense. The DATA Network will continue operations until the upgrade, with a detailed timeline and holder transition plan forthcoming.
Despite the significant investment, the representative emphasized that it was a separate aspect of the partnership. The existing chain will remain operational until the migration is complete.
