Injective and BDACS have entered into a memorandum of understanding to bring a won-backed stablecoin, KRW1, to tokenized asset markets. This development allows institutions to settle transactions in Korean won, potentially reducing reliance on US dollar stablecoins.
KRW1 will serve as the exclusive won-denominated settlement asset for real-world assets (RWAs) on Injective, subject to regulatory approval. BDACS ensures full backing of the stablecoin with Korean won reserves.
This announcement comes as South Korea progresses in establishing rules for won-backed stablecoins under its proposed Digital Asset Basic Act, aiming for finalization by the end of 2026.
Injective, a layer-1 blockchain focusing on tokenized assets, has made strides in this domain. Its institutional services arm recently registered with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, enabling it to maintain ownership records for securities transfers.
