Mastercard brings stablecoin balances into traditional banking and card payments

Published: Oct 15, 2026
Mastercard is expanding its role in stablecoin payments with the launch of the Global Money Platform, marking its first major integration with BVNK since the acquisition in August. Other notable companies, including Nuvei and Marqeta, are among the early adopters.
According to Mastercard, the platform enables businesses to:
- Hold and convert fiat currencies and stablecoins.
- Offer stablecoin-linked cards.
- Make payments directly from stablecoin balances into recipients' local bank accounts, connecting to Mastercard's global money transfer network.
This move positions Mastercard in direct competition with Visa, which launched a similar platform in July.
Research from Standard Chartered highlights growing stablecoin transaction activity despite flat token supplies this year.
