Mt. Gox pushes creditor repayment deadline to 2027 in sixth extension

Latest News

Published: Oct 20, 2026

Mt. Gox extended its repayment deadline by another year, setting it to October 2027, as some creditors remain unpaid due to incomplete procedures and payment processing issues.

This marks the sixth extension since 2023 for the collapsed crypto exchange working to settle outstanding claims.

Rehabilitation trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi stated that the Tokyo District Court approved moving the deadline for base, early lump-sum, and intermediate payments from October 31, 2026 to October 31, 2027.

While repayments for creditors who completed procedures without issues are largely finished, many others remain unpaid as they have not yet finished their procedures, or encountered processing problems.

This latest postponement is the fourth extension since September 2023. Mt. Gox started repaying creditors in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash in July 2024, and in March 2025 reported that more than 19,500 creditors had received their repayments.

The trustee notice did not disclose the number of remaining unpaid creditors or the amount of Bitcoin yet to be distributed.

According to Arkham Intelligence data, Mt. Gox wallets still hold approximately 34,400 BTC, worth about $2.8 billion, as of Tuesday.
