Solana has experienced no reported mainnet outages in the past two years, demonstrating its resilience. However, concentrations in stake, hosting, and client software should be monitored, according to a report by Fidelity's Center for Applied Technology (FCAT).
The report highlights Solana's progress in network health, including:
- Economic security supported by substantial staking participation and incentives.
- Low latency, expanded capacity, and inexpensive transactions facilitating practical use at scale.
Despite these achievements, areas requiring ongoing observation include:
- Stake concentrates among a small number of validator identities and operators.
- Recent reductions in slot times, while positive, necessitate further monitoring.
Cointelegraph reported in August that Solana had reduced its slot time to 350 milliseconds, marking a significant milestone. The Solana Foundation has since announced plans to further reduce slot times to 200ms, aiming for 50ms reductions in the future.
