South Korea is proposing tougher cybersecurity assessments following a review that identified security deficiencies at 130 financial firms, including crypto exchanges.
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) plans to implement stricter measures, such as:
- Improved threat monitoring
- More frequent security assessments
- Stronger accountability for executives
- Vulnerability assessments at least twice a year for larger institutions
- Enhanced information-sharing systems
- Potential use of artificial intelligence for monitoring smaller companies
- Additional inspections outside regular assessment schedules for urgent threats
The FSC is still investigating whether the recent incidents involved AI or were linked to the same attackers.
