US law enforcement’s National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) has reversed its opposition to the CLARITY Act, taking a "neutral" position on the digital asset market structure bill set for a vote later this month.

Previously, the NSA had expressed concerns about provisions exempting crypto mixers from certain registration requirements, stating they could hamper law enforcement’s ability to trace transactions and recover victims’ funds. However, in a recent letter to Senate leaders, the NSA acknowledged the "significant work" done by Congress, the Administration, and stakeholders to navigate the complexities of the bill.

"At this time, we believe the most appropriate course is to step back and allow the legislative process to proceed to establish a clear, effective, and much-needed regulatory framework," said NSA President Troy Wellman and CEO Justin Smith.

The CLARITY Act, passed by the US House in July 2025, has faced numerous delays and concerns from various interest groups since its arrival in the Senate. While the Senate agriculture and banking committees approved their versions of the bill in 2026, a vote scheduled for September 15th remains subject to debate due to lingering reservations regarding stablecoin rewards, tokenized equities, and potential conflicts of interest linked to former President Donald Trump’s family.

Despite the NSA’s shift, other groups continue to voice their opposition, emphasizing the need for further scrutiny before the bill moves forward.
