CoinEx to cease operation after 9 years, citing ‘significant’ crypto contraction

Published: Sep 15, 2026
CoinEx announced it will shut down its operations, blaming a prolonged cryptocurrency market downturn, decreasing trading volumes and liquidity, and rising regulatory and compliance costs. The exchange will halt new user registrations, referral commissions, futures contracts, and various other services starting immediately.
As part of the winding-down process:
- All non-spot services and onchain deposits (except CET) will be discontinued from September 22.
- Spot trading services will end from September 29, with non-USDT assets processed at that time.
- Withdrawals will close on December 22, after which the platform will cease operations.
CoinEx CEO Haipo Yang stated:
“After much reflection, I have come to accept a hard truth. CoinEx did not become one of the industry’s leading exchanges…”
This closure joins a series of other crypto exchanges that have ceased operations this year due to similar challenges.

CoinEx Wallet and CoinEx Vault will remain operational, as they operate independently of the exchange. Launched in December 2017 by ViaBTC, CoinEx ranked 33rd globally with $58 million in 24-hour trading volume (as per CoinMarketCap).
