Democrats Secure Control of US House in Midterm Elections
Democrats will take control of House committees in January 2027, giving them the power to investigate President Donald Trump’s administration. Democrats have won control of both chambers of the US Congress in the midterm elections, significantly increasing their influence over legislation and oversight.
The party secured victories in the House in districts where Trump had previously won by as much as 18 percentage points in 2024. They also flipped at least seven Senate seats in Kansas, Iowa, Texas, Ohio, Maine, North Carolina, and South Carolina, according to the Associated Press.
This outcome may significantly impact crypto-related legislation and bring enhanced congressional scrutiny to Trump-linked digital asset businesses. Democratic committee leaders will play a crucial role in determining which bills advance and which industry activities are subject to investigation.
As reported by NBC News, the Democrats' takeover of House committees will enable them to issue subpoenas and investigate the Trump administration, the president's family, and their business interests.
The Kobeissi Letter, a financial markets commentary publication, highlighted affordability as the primary election issue, citing high energy costs and renewed interest rate increases. Gokhshtein Media founder David Gokhshtein attributed the Republican candidates' failure to connect with voters, stating, "Well, Republicans got their asses handed to them. I thought they’d do better. I was wrong" (as quoted on X Wednesday).
Prediction markets had predicted a Democratic sweep, with traders on Kalshi and Polymarket estimating a 75% probability of the party winning both chambers before the results were announced.
