RUNE rallies 15% as THORChain restarts most swaps after halt

THORChain Restores Trading, RUNE Token Price Up 15%

THORChain has restored trading on Bitcoin, Ethereum, and several other networks, following a refund bug that led to a weekend halt. Three chains remain paused.

THORChain’s RUNE token saw a surge of approximately 15% over the past 24 hours, with its price climbing to around $0.64 on Wednesday, according to CoinMarketCap.

As per THORChain’s network status page, trading and transaction signing are back to "OK" on 10 of its 13 listed external networks. BNB Smart Chain, Cosmos Hub, and Solana still display warnings for both functions.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Tron, and Zcash are among the networks where trading has been re-enabled. Avalanche, Base, and XRP were already operational when Cointelegraph reported on the halt on Monday.

Disruption and Bug Exposure

The disruption began on Saturday with a one-block Ethereum reorganization that removed a 10 Ether deposit that THORChain had already credited. This triggered a failed swap and led to an unexpected refund, causing an extra 10 ETH payout. As a result, node operators paused trading across multiple networks for an investigation.

The halt also affected attempts to move funds stolen in the $6.3 billion Binance hack, potentially slowing down laundering activities by North Korean hackers, according to Chainalysis.

The partial restart now allows access to several cross-chain swap routes.
