Solana more than triples transaction size limit with mainnet upgrade

Latest News | Published: Sep 15, 2026

Solana has significantly increased its transaction size limit to 4,096 bytes, enabling developers to accommodate more complex operations within a single transaction. This upgrade includes support for zero-knowledge proofs and transactions with multiple signatures.

The upgrade was implemented on the mainnet on Tuesday at the start of epoch 1,035 around 1:00 am UTC, according to data from the Solana Foundation. It also introduced the v1 transaction format, maintaining backward compatibility while allowing protocols to take advantage of the increased size.

A spokesperson for the Solana Foundation emphasized that the upgrade aims to empower developers with greater flexibility in creating applications, specifically for zero-knowledge proofs and new on-chain signature schemes.

Recent Enhancements:

In August, Solana reduced its slot time from 400 milliseconds to 350ms. In June, the foundation announced plans to further reduce slot times to 200ms, aiming to enhance latency and accelerate confirmations. Additionally, Solana validators approved a proposal in late August to double the network’s annual disinflation rate, reducing future SOL token issuance.
