Anchorpoint Declines to Rush Retail Stablecoin Launch

Standard Chartered-led Anchorpoint has stated that it will take a cautious approach to introducing its Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin to retail users, despite rival HSBC's recent launch of RedCoin. Anchorpoint CEO, Dominic Maffei, declined to confirm a launch date at a press conference, emphasizing the importance of building the market in a long-term, sustainable manner. He argued that "rushing a launch does not make sense."

The venture, formed through a partnership between Standard Chartered, Animoca Brands, and HKT, initially targeted retail access by the end of 2026. Animoca Brands brings blockchain expertise and industry connections to the venture, aiming to develop diverse use cases for the stablecoin across the Web3 ecosystem.
