Binance hack could accelerate shift to DEXs: Standard Chartered

Published: Oct 30, 2026

According to Standard Chartered’s global head of digital assets research, Geoffrey Kendrick, the recent Binance hack could significantly accelerate the shift towards decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and benefit Uniswap in the long term.

In an email to Cointelegraph, Kendrick stated:

“I would encourage investors to re-engage with Uniswap. The decentralized exchange (DEX) has never had any exploits, and the hack of the largest centralized exchange (CEX), Binance, should see the ratio of DEX to CEX trading continue to increase.”

CoinGecko data shows the top 10 DEX-to-CEX trading ratio was 23.5% in Q2 2026, a 2.1% increase from Q1 2026.

Kendrick maintains his price target of $100 for Uniswap (UNI) by 2030, but believes the Binance hack could push this estimate higher.

He added:

“Only after assets are unfrozen and more detail of the hack emerges will we find a new base.”

Market Impact:

Following the Binance hack, cryptocurrency markets experienced a decline, with BNB dropping over 8% in 24 hours and Bitcoin trading near $77,000. Decentralized finance (DeFi) tokens also saw significant drops, with Aave’s (AAVE) price falling 11.3% to $118.54 and Uniswap’s (UNI) price dropping 10.4% to $6.48, according to CoinGecko.
