Crypto.com to withdraw Hong Kong consumer app citing regulatory changes

Crypto.com to Shut Hong Kong App in February

Crypto.com will discontinue its consumer app services in Hong Kong on February 1, 2027, citing regulatory changes. The company confirmed this shutdown to Bloomberg, stating that affected customers have been notified and will receive guidance on account closure and fund withdrawals.

According to local news outlet HK01, Crypto.com attributed these changes to regulatory shifts in emails sent to Hong Kong users. While pursuing a virtual asset trading platform license, the consumer app is operated by Foris DAX MT Limited, with a separate entity, Foris DAX HK Limited, applying for the license.

Although Foris DAX HK Limited was granted "deemed-to-be-licensed" status in 2024, the application remains in the approval process.

Crypto.com assures Bloomberg that it will continue pursuing approval for its institutional-grade Crypto.com Exchange platform.

Cointelegraph reached out to Crypto.com for comment but did not receive a response by press time.
