Texas Brothers Sentenced to Prison in Crypto Robbery

Cointelegraph reported that Texas brothers Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia have been sentenced to 15 years in prison for an armed crypto robbery and kidnapping in Grant, Minnesota.

Home Invasions on the Rise

Home invasions became the most common form of crypto-related crimes globally during H1 2026, with a total of 20 incidents, up from just one the previous year, as revealed by blockchain security firm CertiK.

The Incident

On September 19, 2025, the brothers, originally from Waller, Texas, kidnapped a family at gunpoint in their Minnesota home. They zip-tied the family and held them for over nine hours, demanding access to cryptocurrency accounts. When the amount they received wasn't sufficient, they forced the victim to drive to a cabin, where they obtained additional cryptocurrency, totaling over $8 million.

Sentencing

The brothers pleaded guilty in June and were sentenced on October 31, 2026, by US District Judge Donovan W. Frank.

FBI's Response

"Raymond and Isiah Garcia violated the sanctity of a home, abducted a victim, terrorized a family at gunpoint for hours, and disrupted an entire community in a brazen act of violence and greed," stated FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge, Christopher D. Dotson.

Global Crypto Crime Trends

CertiK's July report highlighted a 33% increase in wrench attacks worldwide during H1 2026, with a rise in kidnappings from 12 to 16 incidents.
